Law regulates and ensures that a community or individuals keep and adhere to the will of the state. One important characteristic of group life is that it has a set of values that help to regulate behavior among individual members (Kacowicz, 2005). When people interact with the society, moral norms develop and are responsible for regulation of their modes of behavior and relationships. While laws are regulated by the state agencies, moral norms are not written down but they help people to interact well with the society. When people break the law, the state is involved, and action is taken against the offender. However, in some instances, if someone goes against moral norms in the community law cannot be used to act on that person. For example, it is morally wrong to have sexual intercourse with someone’s wife. People with such behaviors are considered as a social outcast. In most communities, the victim was killed, chased from the society or given capital punishment. The same person who committed the offense cannot be taken to a court of law and prosecuted. The society is full of social injustices. Some state laws are a product of moral issues in the society. Laws that are against prostitution, underage drinking and youth gambling emanate from what is good and bad in the society. However, there are some countries where behaviors like prostitution remain legal. These laws are very effective, and they need to be revised to have balance in the society.
